Welcome to the website of Tim Smith Wines. I am a small Barossa based producer, making wines from the region's time proven grape variety's of Mataro (Mourvedre), Shiraz, and Grenache. As well, I make a Viognier from the Adelaide Hills.
My winemaking style is heavily influenced by working in wine regions around the world, most notably Portugal, New Zealand, and France. Having spent a number of vintages in France, both in the Northern and Southern Rhone Valley, it comes as no surprise my white wine is made from Viognier, and my blended red wine is based on the great wines of Bandol, where Mourvedre (Mataro in the Barossa) is King. I am also working on producing wines influenced by my Portugese experiences.
The 2009 Mataro Grenache Shiraz is now released. Bottled as a 12 month old wine, I wanted to capture the rich ripe fruit characters in the bottle, and pull back from the secondary characters that are achieved by longer barrel maturation. The wine is slowly making it's way into quality retail outlets and restaurants around Australia and overeas.
The 2008 Barossa Shiraz is now released. Please see the appropriate page for wine notes and Vintage comment The 2008 Reserve Shiraz is still in oak, and planned for a July release, along with the 'Reserve' 2009 Barossa Mataro.
Watch this space as well for the return (first since 2005) of the Barossa Botrytis Semillon, currently fermenting away slowly in tank.
And, finally for now, thanks to all those who have emailed and asked to be added to the mailing list, your support is appreciated..
Best regards,
Tim Smith
